Choosing the Right Fin Stiffness

Selecting the proper fin stiffness involves considering variables such as your weight, strength, diving type, and conditions. The general guideline is to choose based on your weight and strength:

Soft Blades: Recommended for small to medium-sized divers. These are our most popular option.
Medium Blades: Ideal for larger divers with strong legs.

Short Rail vs Long (Standard) Rail Foot Pockets.

Choosing between short rail and standard long rail foot pockets depends on the specific needs and preferences of the diver.

Short rail foot pockets are ideal for freedivers and spearfishermen who prioritize agility, maneuverability, and efficiency. These foot pockets allow for greater flexibility and reactivity of the blades, making them perfect for quick, dynamic movements in the water, especially in tight spaces or when pursuing fast-moving targets. The reduced rubber content and ease of interchangeability also enhance overall performance and comfort during long dives.

Carbon Composite Fins

These fins are pretty awesome. The medium stiffness are pretty stiff so keep that in mind. I wear a 14 tennis shoes and the 13-14 work great with booties on. Will buy again.

Composite vs Pure Carbon

I've used both the composite and the pure carbon fins and the pure carbon is vastly superior. The composite is marketed as a carbon fin with added strength, but the reality is the pure carbons were already workhorses in terms of durability. The composites are MUCH stiffer and have much less rebound. They are much harder to kick with than the pure carbon. I am a fan of Mako products and they stand behind their stuff, I just wanted to post this review because getting contextual reviews of carbon fins is very difficult. The composites aren't a bad product, I'd just say to expect them to perform like a stiff fiberglass fin. For the difference in the price, the pure carbon is much better. This review is based on 60 days diving with the pure carbon and 30 days diving with the composite.
