There is no metal. The plastic seems to be very sturdy with very little flex to it. I use this on my 2" nylon belt and it secures very firmly when weaved through the slots. It's actually a challenge to move if you change your mind. The bigger slot is 3/8" wide to allow the D ring to slide on your belt if desired. I clip my brass clip from my float line on this unit and so far I see no issues (for my type of use).
Well constructed ring
Was already ordering a belt so I decided to grab this as well
Great product.
