Item Description

Yamamoto Reef Camo Wetsuit - 2 Piece Open Cell

Don't let the low price fool you! Yamamoto Neoprene is the best and most expensive neoprene in the world. The reason we can offer these high quality MAKO Spearguns Yamamoto wetsuits for such a low price is because we sell direct to divers, not through dive shops ( See the MAKO DIRECT Story!)

Are you ready for a bold statement? Then here it is:.

NO OTHER SPEARFISHING WETSUIT OFFERS MORE STRETCH, COMFORT, WARMTH AND DURABILITY

Yes. That is a bold statement. But, here's why we can say it:

Yamamoto of Japan neoprene material is regarded as the highest quality wetsuit material among advanced freedivers.

Two years ago, MAKO Spearguns teamed up with YAMAMOTO Neoprene of Japan to make some of the highest quality 2 piece open cell spearfishing suits in the world. The result was our Yamamoto #39 Green Camo 2 piece wetsuits and we quickly became known as a supplier of some of the highest quality wetsuits in the industry, providing superior warmth, comfort and durability.

Our wetsuits are certified by Tomizo Yamamoto (President of YAMAMOTO Corporation) and me (Dano Krahling, President of MAKO Spearguns) to be Genuine YAMAMOTO Neoprene.

Genuine YAMAMOTO Neoprene Certificate

Until recently, it was impossible to improve upon this suit.

Now, a new Yamamoto outer material is available which offers 30 percent more stretch than any other outer material available. We call it Yamamoto "Mega Stretch" and it takes wetsuit technology to a whole new level.

Serious freedivers are especially quick to recognize the increased lung capacity this material provides. Increased lung capacity means increased dive time and peak performance.

The new MAKO Yamamoto #39 Reef Camo 2 pc open cell suit includes:

  • Yamamoto #39 Neoprene: The finest neoprene material in the world.
  • Integrated Ergonomic Hood: Ensures maximum warmth.
  • Knee pads: Real padded material sewn on (not a glued on piece of rubber)
  • Chest loading pad: Real padded material sewn on
  • All seams: Glued and blind stitched for durability
  • Jacket: With integrated hood
  • Integrated knife pocket: This is a huge safety feature.
  • Beaver Tail: Double snaps
  • Selectable Bottoms: High Waist or Farmer Johns
  • Yamamoto "Mega Stretch" Camo Outer Material: This is the improved outer material which makes this the best suit available.
  • Thicknesses: Available in 3mm

HIGH WAIST BOTTOMS OR FARMER JOHNS?
High Waist Bottons or Farmer Johns? You decide. Each suit comes with the Farmer John Bottoms for added warmth. However, if you prefer the High Waist Pants, no problem. We deliberately placed the upper seam in the appropriate spot to allow you, the diver to remove the shoulder straps by following (cutting) just above the strategically placed seam for a perfect and professional looking cut that will not fray. But, don't throw away the newly created tank top. You might want to save it for a chilly day.

NOTE: Open cell suits are 20% warmer than closed cell suits. For example, a 5 mm open cell suit will be as warm or warmer than a 7mm closed cell (nylon lined) suit. The benefits include greater warmth and comfort with less bulk and less lead required to control buoyancy. Serious freedivers prefer these suits because they spend much more time in the water than bottom-time restricted scuba divers.

NOTE: Open cell suits are not put on the same way as closed cell suits. Putting on an open cell suit is fast and easy. However, because the inside of an open cell suit is not lined, you must use a lubricant sprayed inside the suit. We recommend " Suit Slide" a scent free, non petroleum based lubricant designed for Spearfishermen. Once applied, putting on an open cell suit (unlined) is actually faster than putting on a closed cell (lined) suit.

Also, check out Suit Fresh - the first product to clean, remove odors and condition your suit all in one. It is made with organic ingredients. It eliminates odors, uric acids, sweat, salts and sunscreen. EZ sprayer to make cleaning wetsuits fast, effective and easy. Suit FRESH does not require pre-mixing or a multiple step cleaning process.

I'm a bigger guy, have broad shoulders and in the past I had to spend the big bucks on a custom made suit. These MAKO/Yamamoto suits stretch like crazy!!! and give you a custom fit without constricting.

For the frequent diver whose is hard on gear like myself, I gotta say these Yamamoto Mako wetsuits are very warm for the mm thickness and extremely durable against reef snags. Thank you Dano and Mako from all the bigger guys out there for creating a suit that fits us like a glove without the custom price tag.

    very nice and happy.

Posted by stefano giovannini on Nov 25th 2017

Very nice, soft. I was worried that it was shaped for big athletic types but the L fits me well ( i am 183 cm tall 77 kg / 6ft 180 lbs or so - long torso). It is warm, nice camo. Once i forgot the bottle with the soapy water, but i could wear it just by dunking it in the sea, soaking it a few seconds. Just little effort. Recommended. I returned cheaper knockoff from Amazon, poorer quality and poorer fit. I'd buy again.

    I LOVE THIS SUIT

Posted by michael scott moso on Nov 25th 2017

So if your considering this suit, you should just try it. I had nothing but a great experience with these guys and wanted to say the following: The size chart fit me perfect I’m 6’1 about 195, kinda lanky and got the XL - perfect fit. The 3D camo looks a little “desert-ish” but in person it’s amazing. It will blend with anything except open ocean blue. So it’s a little darker in person and looks truly cool in person. It gets a little darker when wet but not very much at all so it really looks good in the water. (Ur dive buddy may lose sight of you) What else... great construction but also it’s extremely comfortable which makes me feel way more relaxed In general which certainly helps with the bottom time. Lastly, thickness... I got the 5mm for so cal diving. Even past thermocline you don’t even feel it. I’ve never felt too warm and it’s great if u wana cut the tank top off but I kinda like it. Also the price is smokin and returns are a breeze

Couldn't be happier with this wetsuit

Posted by Chris Moore on Oct 9th 2017

I've been diving with my Mako Yamamoto Reef Camo 5mm for over 2 years now and loved it so much that i had no second guess where I would be going when it came time to replace my 3mm.

    Review Yamamoto Reef OC wetsuit

Posted by brian gambardella on Sep 8th 2017

so far so good, have used 6 times. Noticed a few very small loose threads on the knee guards get a bit loose but not worrying about it yet. Only reason i didn't give excellent was i haven't used it enough to warrant that rating.

The website was very useful and informative. The suit came quickly and without any discrepancies. I was able to get the suit on and hit the water in no time! I was the envy of the hunt pack! I am a customer for LIFE! Semper Fidelis

I haven't had a chance to use these suits yet. I've heard great reviews from friends who had them and they are happy with them.

    No more heat stroke!

Posted by Jeff Shannon on Jul 13th 2017

After sweating it out last summer using my 7mm suit, I took advantage of the June Bro deal and picked up the 3mm. I no longer have to worry about dehydrating myself after a few hours or suffering heat stroke hauling my yak from the car to the water.

    Warm, Highest quality

Posted by Jared Lee on Jul 13th 2017

Highest quality for a awesome price. I'm 6' 1 185 about 20 percent body fat, 42" chest 36" waist and I got the XL. I was thinking about the Large but with my chest size to go with a XL. Fits great in chest but a little wrinkley in the lower to mid section but perfect all around fit.

    Fast service and great price

Posted by Ross Talner on Jun 25th 2017

I have used my new suit a couple times already and it works well. The top fits great but I will be trimming a bit of hood as I it is quite a tight fit on my jaw. The long johns fit well but the thighs are sized for someone with really big quads. so it is actually loose on my small quads. The calves and torso fit great. If you have big quads like my friend Josh, this is the perfect suit.. Also Knife pocket is small for a knife that you would want to use in the kelp. But why would I want a knife pocket I could only access with my right hand anyway. It is much safer to place your knife where both hands can access it.
